Congratulations to our Reading Olympics Team, led by Ms. Erickson, with able assistance from Ms. Dawson & Mr. Zucker! The Reading Olympics team won two first place awards!!! Plus, congratulations to our Chess Club participants!. We had one team in first place and another in second place! They had a strong showing! The wonderful team was led by Ms. Wilkerson, Chess Club Sponsor.

Also, it is important to hear your voice. Please contact Ms. Gerena, our SISL, to join our School Advisory Council (SAC). Our next SAC/Parent meeting will be on Monday, March 19 at 9:00 a.m. in the Multi-Purpose Room. Your attendance is very important to your child’s success in school!

Our student attendance rate from 2016-17 was 93.3%. We are now at 95.1%. We must reach 95.6% to be at the best level for student success. If we can reach 97% on any given day, we will distribute super-duper pencils. If a class reaches the 97% mark for the week, they will receive a pretzel party. Students can only miss eight days of school to reach the 95.6% attendance goal. Let’s all come to school, every day, on-time and in uniform! Only eight days per year are allowed to be missed. “Miss less than eight, and you are great!” WE WILL HONOR THE CLASSES IN EACH GRADE THAT HAVE THE MOST DAYS OF PERFECT ATTENDANCE EACH MONTH WITH A PIZZA OR WATER ICE PARTY. COME TO SCHOOL & BE COOL!!

Please remember, there is no parking in the bus zone in front of our school. This area is for school buses, daycare buses and vans, and the SEPTA bus only. ALSO, PLEASE ENSURE THAT YOUR CHILDREN CROSS THE STREET IN THE CROSSWALKS AT B & WYOMING FOR THEIR SAFETY. The Philadelphia Police Department has issued tickets for those vehicles parked in front during admissions and dismissal time, and will issue tickets to operators of cars double parked who allow their children to cross in the street away from the crosswalk.

Also, we encourage you to schedule any medical, dental, vision, etc. appointments after or before school hours so that your students are in school all day, everyday, in uniform and ready to learn. If there is an unavoidable appointment necessary, the person picking up the student must have a current and valid ID, and be on the emergency contact form.

Remember to have your children Read to Lead and Succeed for at least 20 minutes every night. Research shows that if you read while they are reading, their fluency and ability to focus will increase by more than one grade level per year!
